This made me think back to my days as a Paramedic. We got a call to a house where there was a bariatric patient who had fallen. The patient was morbidly obes and weiged around 30 stone (420lbs). This story isn't really about them though. There are many reasons people get to this size and I've never judged, only

Font - On the day of the story, I took the call that the patient had fallen and we went to the house. Sure enough the neighbour was not only parked in the disabled spot but had parked a second car blocking access to the patients driveway. I assessed the patient and suspected they had a broken hip, so needed to go in. I sent my colleague round to the neighbour to ask them to move the cars and when they came back I was told the neighbour had just told my colleague to "do one". No problem, time to

Font - The fire service were the first to arrive and I spoke tot he crew commander to let them know what the situation was. A firemen went to the house to ask the neighbour to move the car and was told the same as my colleague. The message was relayed back and the watch commander just asked me one question. "Is the patients life at risk?". I knew exactly where this was going and it was time our thoughtless neigbour got the message. My answer was "Yes, there is equipment I need to get into the ho

Font - I doubt it made our patients life any easier and sadly they died a few months later without leaving hospital, but it really did bring a smile to their face as we wheeled them out.

Font - 2 taloncard815 22 hr. ago Remind me of the first time I broke a window because the guy was blocking the hydrant. We were sure to use the five foot extension and didn't deter the cufflink all the way so that his car flooded from The Leaky coupling 310 Reply Share SmackySmack · 21 hr. ago . I always wondered how much joy firefighters took in breaking windows and running hoses through. I hate to see people inconvenienced but love to see the comeuppance! 177 Reply Share

Font - thelovelykyle 21 hr. ago My favourite addendum to this is that the Fire Service will have billed the neighbour for any damage to the truck. 111 Reply Share 44 the_cool_handluke 19 hr. ago The volunteer fire department I was on was quite happy for situations they could bill for. Some situations each vehicle that responded included personal vehicles being charged out, every person responding being charged out at full time professional rates with automatic overtime as we were not on shift at

Font - Wintercat76 1 day ago Heard a story from a fire fighter friend. Sort of narrow street, parking illegal because emergency vehicles might need access. So, there was a fire, and since the cars were in the way, the firefighters had to make room. They used a snow plow to push them aside. The cars were not looking shiny and new afterwards. 486 Reply Share

Font - Fly_Pelican 23 hr. ago Probably unrelated, but decades ago we rented a house in a narrow street with a fireplace. Short story, one morning smoke was coming from under the floorboards so we called the fire brigade. They prised up the floorboards and flames leapt out. While they were sorting that out, a woman from down the street wanted the fire truck moved because she had to go to tennis. It didn't surprise me in that suburb though. Reply Share 246

Font - Suspicious-gibbon - 21 hr. ago I love the fire department. I used to work at a place where some idiot decided to set light to a book of matches in the bar. The alarm went off and we duly evacuated. It was a quiet night so they sent SEVEN trucks! Boss looked at the CCTV footage with the fire chief. The idiot was still standing outside waiting to be let back in to finish his drink. He got the bill for the trucks. 473 Reply Share
